The soul sounds of Stax

Stax Records was one of the greatest R&B labels of all time, home not only to legends like Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, and Booker T. and the MG's, but a number of other talented artists (like Johnnie Taylor and Little Milton) who helped define the Stax sound of the late 60s and early 70s. Click HERE for a sampler of Stax songs that we've added to Rhapsody in the past week.

Soul of the Fab Four

Wow. In 1970, Stax Records house band Booker T. and the MG's released an album named McLemore Avenue, their funky and unique take on the Beatles' final masterpiece, Abbey Road. The album includes covers of nearly every song on Abbey Road, from "Come Together" to "Here Comes the Sun." Just added to Rhapsody today. Click HERE to hear the album in all its glory. Good stuff.

This song has been my guilty pleasure of the week; a sing-song chime-a-rific indie ballad by Lookout! band Communique, who I first discovered through Rhapsody. Check out the song "Black Curses" by clicking here.
